Cooktop Repair — Book a Visit Today

A cooktop quits in small ways first. One burner clicks and clicks without lighting. A glass surface heats, then drops out mid-simmer. Touch controls go dead or beep at nothing. Behind those symptoms sit spark modules, igniters, valves, radiant elements, infinite switches, and control boards that cook themselves over years of West Texas summers. Our visit starts with the failure you describe, then moves to power, continuity, and gas flow. We test before we replace parts. We repair all major brands as an independent shop, gas and electric, glass-top and coil. If your cooktop is half working or fully dark, call us and tell us what you saw and smelled.

Cooktop Repair — residential cooktop being serviced

The cooktop symptoms we hear most

  • "It clicks but won't light" Spark igniter, wet or cracked electrode, or a clogged burner port
  • "One burner is stone cold" Failed radiant element, burnt receptacle, or an open infinite switch
  • "Smells like gas near the stove" Loose fitting, worn valve stem, or a burner not seating — shut it off and call
  • "Buttons don't respond anymore" Touch control ribbon, membrane switch, or a failed control board
  • "Low flame no matter the setting" Regulator trouble, orifice sized for the wrong gas, or valve blockage

Safe things to check first

Worth a look before you call — sometimes it saves you the visit.

  • 1Confirm the breaker for the cooktop hasn't tripped, and reset it once.
  • 2Look for standing spills or water under the burner caps, then dry everything fully.
  • 3Check that burner caps and grates sit flat in their proper spots.
  • 4On gas, make sure the shutoff valve behind or under the unit is fully open.

Cooktop Repair — quick answers

Should I keep using a cooktop that smells like gas?

No. Turn every knob off, shut the gas valve if you can reach it, open a window, and leave the burners alone. If the smell is strong, step outside and call your gas utility first, then reach us.

Why does my glass top cycle on and off?

That is usually normal. Radiant elements pulse to hold a temperature. If cycling feels wrong — long cold stretches, or heat that never returns — the infinite switch or element may be failing and needs testing.

Can a cracked glass cooktop be repaired?

Cracks in ceramic glass don't get patched. The surface panel gets replaced. Stop using the cooktop right away, since spills reaching wiring under a crack create a shock and short hazard.

Do hard water spills damage a cooktop?

They can. Mineral crust from Lubbock-area water bakes onto glass and into gas ports. That buildup blocks flame and traps heat. Cleaning helps, but stubborn scale around igniters sometimes hides a part that already gave out.

Is it worth repairing an older cooktop?

Often yes, especially with a common failure like an element, igniter, or switch. Age matters less than part availability. We tell you what we find and what it takes, then you decide the next step.

What should I have ready when I call?

Brand, rough age, and the model number if you can find it on a label underneath or in your paperwork. Then describe what happens — which burner, what sound, what smell. That detail speeds up the diagnosis.

How it works

  1. Step 1

    Tell us the symptom

Call us or fill out the form. Describe what you hear, smell, or see. Noise, leak, error code, burning odor. Give us the brand and rough age if you know them.

  2. Step 2

    We come look

A technician arrives with common parts on the truck. We test the machine instead of guessing. Then we explain what failed, in plain words, and what the repair takes before anything gets opened up.

  3. Step 3

    You decide, we repair

Nothing gets replaced without your go-ahead. Most repairs finish the same visit. If a part must be ordered, we tell you straight and set a return time that works for your day.

Why homeowners call us

  • Hard water is our specialtyWest Texas scale wrecks dishwashers, ice makers, and water valves. We see it daily. Clogged spray arms, crusted heating elements, inlet screens choked white. We clean and replace the parts that scale eats first.
  • Built for Texas summersHeat pushes refrigerators and freezers hard. Condenser coils pack with dust, compressors run nonstop, garage freezers quit in triple digits. We check cooling systems for heat load, not just for the obvious broken part.
  • Plain talk, no runaroundWe tell you what died and why. If a machine is not worth fixing, we say so. You get the reasoning, not a sales pitch, so you can make the call yourself.
  • Most brands, most machinesWashers, dryers, ranges, ovens, dishwashers, fridges, freezers. We work as an independent shop on all major brands, top load and front load, gas and electric. One call covers the whole laundry room and kitchen.
  • All major brands, gas & electricWhirlpool, Samsung, LG, GE, Maytag, Bosch, KitchenAid and more — as an independent repair company.
  • Straight answersIf it isn't worth repairing, we'll say so — often on the phone.
